About

It’s all pretty simple, really. Once a minute, TTCupdates (often referred to as TTCu) checks for TTC service alerts, shortens them as necessary, and posts them to Twitter. To make things even better, you can use TTCu Community Edition to receive the latest updates from the community itself.

Essentially, it means you and your Twitter-compatible device are never more than 59 seconds away from knowing about a disruption that could impact your commute. Want to get in on the action? Read on.

How to use TTCupdates

Just follow these simple steps and you’ll be on your way in no time!

  1. Create a Twitter account.

If you don’t already have one, you’ve been missing out. Twitter is an incredibly useful microblogging and communication tool. The best part? It’s completely free. You can grab an account here.

  2. Follow ttcupdates and @ttcu_community

Once you do, you’ll begin receiving any and all future alerts. Some prefer to follow one account or the other. The TTCu Community feed is usually very high-volume, but extremely useful.

  3. Extend Twitter

Check out some of the really cool Twitter applications available. No matter your operating system, mobile device, or language, you’re likely to find an application that will make Twitter more fun, practical, and easy to use.

  4. Sign up for SMS Updates

Set up SMS updates through your Twitter settings. Then, visit the TTCupdates Twitter profile and click “On” under “Device Updates”.

  5. Tell your friends!

Why keep something this great to yourself?

Who created TTCupdates?

Hi! My name is Brian Gilham and I’m a 23-year-old journalist, photographer, web developer, and all-around creative kind of guy. I work downtown, but head home to the ‘burbs every night. You might recognize me from my brief stint as a Torontoist contributor. If you like, can follow me on Twitter or e-mail me at me@briangilham.com.

Oh, and don’t forget…

If you are interested in viewing alerts using the browser on your BlackBerry or cell phone, TTCu also provides a mobile-friendly listing of the five latest updates.

Have a question that isn’t answered here? Your first stop should be the FAQ. If that fails to answer your question, feel free to get in touch.
